There are PLENTY more things to do in this curious city – museums to visit, monuments to take selfies in front of… However on my trip these are the moments & places that stood out most or provided the refuge needed after the bender that was Oktoberfest. Egészségére!
Restaurants:
Dobrumba – Wicked good vibe & moroccan influenced dishes
Mazel Tov – Good meal lunch or dinner
Hilda – Modern take on traditional budapest dishes
Getto Gulyas – Another spot for traditional dishes & curries
Dorado Cafe – Cute cafe good coffee & wifi (which I desperately needed at times)
Wine Beer & Cocktail Bars:
Szimpla Kent – Awesome ruins bar!
Doblo Wine Bar – good wine. power kept going out then back on which supposedly was not normal. Almost made it feel more authentic to what I experience in budapest everywhere haha
Beefbar – incredible cocktails, hot mixologists, nice hotel lobby vibe
- Supposedly a really nice rooftop bar here as well but they close it in the rain
Things To Do:
Taste of Hungary Food Tour – Do this early in the trip. Get to see a food market, cute food shops, and learn about the history & vibe of the city
House of Terror – Powerful. Having survived two terror regimes, it was felt that the time had come for Hungary to erect a fitting memorial to the victims, and at the same time to present a picture of what life was like for Hungarians in those times.
Bath Houses: Many options – these are the 2 I went to:
Gellert Bath House: Looks pretty in pictures however due to the long line of tourists I decided it may not be as relaxing as I hoped so I did not go inside
Rudas Baths: Not as pretty but less people, more locals, still calming baths, & nice rooftop tub with a great view of the city
